Levoit air purifier troubleshooting

Levoit is probably one of the most trendy air purifiers in the market. People love Levoit products because they are affordable, rich in features, and easy to use. The intelligent interface allows you to set up the device once, and it will operate on its own. However, sometimes even these smart air purifiers require your attention. In this article, I will provide a solution to 5 common Levoit air purifier problems and a complete troubleshooting guide on how to solve these issues.

Getting started with a Levoit air purifier

Levoit air purifiers come pre-assembled right out of the box, and you don’t need to do any assembling work. However, sometimes the Levoit air purifier doesn’t work out of the box. The chances are that you didn’t configure the device correctly. Therefore, I suggest that you begin from the start again and follow these setup instructions very carefully.

Every Levoit product comes pre-installed with the HEPA filter, activated carbon filter, and pre-filter. So, you don’t have to worry about filter replacement on the first use.

The control panel

When you take the Levoit air purifier out of the package, you will notice a circular control panel at the top of the device. The icons on the control panel are not labeled, so this can cause some confusion for beginners. Here are what all the icons mean:

  • Power button: The circular power button is located at the center of the control panel. You can use this button to turn the device on/off and also factory reset it (discussed later).
  • Fan button: The fan icon is the fan speed-controlling button. You can use this function to control the current fan speed of your air purifier. High fan speed draws more power but cleans the room at a faster rate. Similarly, slow and medium fan settings draw the least power, and produce less noise but draw significantly less power.
  • Sleep mode: The icon with a crescent and a star in the sleep mode button. It doesn’t put the device in standby mode. You can activate the famous sleep mode of the device using this button. Sleep mode is suitable for nighttime because it sets the device to the lowest fan settings, and power-saving mode, and turns off the backlight.
  • Timer: The timer button can be used to set the auto-timer function of the air purifier. You can select from the pre-defined 2, 4, 6, and 8 hours or choose a custom time period by long pressing on the button.
  • Display lock: The display lock or the child lock button is suitable for households with children and offices. Activating the display lock of the air purifier prevents others from changing the various device settings like sleep mode, auto mode, fan speed, and timer control.
  • Filter indicator: The filter replacement indicator button has a backlight in it. If the light starts blinking, it means that it is time for the filter replacement. Moreover, you can use this button to reset the device.
  • Display off: The Icon with brightness is the display off button. You can use this button to turn off the display backlight manually without turning on the sleep mode. You can turn the display back on by pressing any control panel button except the power button.

How to start a Levoit air purifier?

Setting up a Levoit air purifier the first time is as easy as it can get. Here is how:

  • Remove the packaging and take out the device from the carton and protection covering.
  • Make sure that you place the device in such a way that the control panel is facing upwards.
  • Place the device on a flat and stable surface like a desktop or a table.
  • Take out the filter from the package, turn the top lid counterclockwise and take it off.
  • Place the HEPA filter in the device and put the lid back on by turning it clockwise.
  • Plug the power cord in a compatible switch and press the power button to turn on the device.

Levoit air purifier problems and troubleshooting

Levoit air purifiers rarely encounter any problems if you maintain them well. However, some users face these common issues that you can solve without any professional help.

Device not powering on:

Did you just plug the power cord but pressing the power button does nothing? If yes, then chances are you can solve the problem by one of these methods:

  • Refer to the user manual for power information: All Levoit air purifiers require 45-65W power at 120V/60Hz. This is the commonly used power setting for all American states. If you live somewhere else, you might need to use a power supply converter for the device to work.
  • Check the power socket: Physically examine the power socket and ensure that the power plug is tightly inserted in the socket. You can test the socket’s power by plugging in any other electronic appliance and see if it works.
  • The power cord: The power cords are made from a heavy-duty rubber material. However, it can become damaged over time and may even require replacement. If you notice any abnormal cracks or a black spot on the power cord, you need to get it replaced by the Levoit service center or any local electric store.

Beeping sounds from the Levoit air purifier:

If your unit is working fine except for a constant beeping sound, the control panel is malfunctioning. The device can become dis-calibrated due to several reasons, including power breakage, impact damage, and short circuit. In this case, you will need to reset the unit.

To do this make sure your air purifier is plugged in but turned off and then press the button for 5-10 seconds once the light is turned off the reset is done.

After that switch, it off, unplug, and plug it in again.

And you are good to go.

How to reset the Levoit air purifier?

  • Plug the power cord in a working socket but don’t turn on the device yet.
  • Press and hold the filter indicator button for 3-5 seconds.
  • Let go of the filter reset button and turn on the unit.
  • If the device doesn’t stop beeping, turn it off again and hold down the filter reset button for longer.
  • You can also reset the device by unplugging it from the power socket and leaving it unattended for 30-45 minutes.
  • The device will reset to factory settings, and the beeping will stop.

Levoit air purifier fan problems:

Every Levoit air purifier comes with a self-cleansing powerful fan. However, sometimes the fan will stop working or function abnormally due to the following reasons:

  • The settings: Make sure that the sleep mode isn’t turned on. The fan speed is set to the lowest settings and doesn’t produce much noise. You can also try increasing the fan speed and be on the look for any abnormal noise.
  • Filter: If the fan stopped working after a filter replacement, chances are you didn’t install the filter correctly. Remove the top lid and remove the HEPA filter from the unit. Take out the filter and ensure that you removed the plastic covering from the filter. Also, ensure that the filter is installed in the correct orientation.
  • Clogging: If you live in a highly polluted area or have pets in the house, the unit becomes clogged over time. Open the top lid, remove the HEPA filter and use compressed air to clean the pre-filter. Remove any hair, dust, and other solid particles from the pre-filter. Examine the fan and blow compressed air on it to clean it.
  • Intake blockage: If the device isn’t functioning properly even after cleaning, the air intake may be blocked. Make sure that no obstacle such as a wall, table, or plastic is blocking the air intake at the backside of the device.

The display won’t turn off:

Some Levoit air purifier users face display light issues with their units. In this case, the display either doesn’t turn on or off, but the unit works just fine.

  • If the display isn’t turning on, the chances are that the display lock is activated. Turn off the display lock by holding the lock button for 3 seconds. You can also try pressing any other button except the power button to turn on the device.
  • If the display lock trick doesn’t fix your problem, you can always reset the device.
  • Turn off the air purifier, and press hold the filter reset button for 3-5 seconds before turning the device back on.

Filter indicator not turning off:

The filter replacement indicator light starts blinking as soon as it is time to replace the filter. However, sometimes the indicator doesn’t go off by itself even after replacement. In this case:

  • Remove the filter and make sure that you installed it correctly after you remove the plastic covering from the filter.
  • Reset the filter indicator by turning off the device and holding the filter indicator reset button for 3-5 seconds.
  • The filter indicator will stop blinking when the device turns on. Otherwise, you didn’t use the Genuine Levoit replacement filter.
